RCHS Parking Permit Application: 21-22

Aug 16, 2021

RCHS Parking update

As we are confident our community knows, the student parking situation at Rock Canyon is far from ideal.  We often have the largest student population and have the fewest student parking spots.  We have done everything within our control to maximize space and we do our best with the cards we are dealt.

We always take pride in prioritizing seniors for parking permits; however, we also want to utilize a permit system that efficiently ensures that the maximum number of spots is being used on a daily basis.  We therefore have analyzed current permit data and several years' worth of parking data to implement the following small changes, effective TODAY.

SENIORS:

Licensed seniors who have registered for a parking permit and have not picked it up at the finance window have until Friday, August 20th, 3:00pm to do so.

After 8/20/21, your permit will no longer be available and you will be added to our wait list.

Licensed seniors who have not yet registered may do so and pick up your permit by Friday, August 20th, 3:00pm.

After 8/20/21, your permit will no longer be available and you will be added to our wait list.

After 8/20/21, any senior that fills out the Parking Permit application will be added to the wait list.

JUNIORS:

Licensed Juniors whose names have been on the lottery list posted outside the finance window who have not yet picked it up have until  Friday, August 20th, 3:00pm  to do so.

After that, your permit will no longer be available and you will be added to the bottom of our wait list.

Juniors who become licensed this school year may continue to fill out the Parking Permit application and you will be added to the wait list.

After Friday, August 20th, we will move down the wait list and distribute permits until we reach the threshold of parking spots.  In determining the threshold, we utilize average absentee rates as well as the number of seniors and juniors that have an off hour any given period.

Ticketing begins August 16th for cars not properly displaying parking permits.

Please visit our Student Parking webpage for the application and further information.

We will continue to monitor the parking lots to determine whether we can release more permits on an ongoing basis.

If you registered, your name is on the list.  We will contact you when your name comes up.

We thank you for your understanding of this difficult situation.
